Bowel Screening Programme - Detecting Cancer Early

About the screening programme

Bowel cancer is the third most common cancer in Scotland and every year almost 4000 people are diagnosed with the disease. The Scottish Bowel Screening Programme invites all men and women in Scotland between the ages of 50 to 74 for screening every two years. It is very important, therefore, that we have an up to date address for you so that you receive regular invitations for screening. If you have changed address recently please telephone the surgery and the receptionist will update your records.

What you should do if you receive a screening kit

All eligible patients will be sent a bowel testing kit by post to their home address with clear instructions on how to take the samples.

Once you have completed the three steps the kit should be returned in the envelope provided to the Screening Centre who will carry out the tests and then will send you the results within two weeks. A copy of the results will also be sent to your GP.

Your doctors at Perth & Scone Medical Group would strongly encourage you to participate in the programme if you receive a kit.
